As the swirling flow moves towards the center of the cyclone, centrifugal forces act on the particles suspended in the fluid. These forces cause the heavier particles to move towards the outer wall of the cyclone while the lighter particles remain closer to the center.

These two factors increase the ability to separate seeds better. The centrifugal force can be increased by decreasing the cyclone diameter, and the residence time can be increased by increasing the cone height.

How it works?

A Cyclone Separators is a type of industrial equipment used for separating solid particles from a gas or liquid stream. It operates on the principle of centrifugal force to separate particles of different sizes and densities.

The contaminated gas or liquid enters the cyclone separator through an inlet pipe. The incoming flow is introduced tangentially into a cylindrical chamber known as the cyclone body. This tangential entry imparts a swirling motion to the fluid, creating a vortex inside the chamber.

The separated particles are then collected at the bottom of the cyclone, forming a conical-shaped accumulation, while the cleaned gas or liquid stream exits through an outlet at the top.

Common types of Cyclone Separator:

  • Reverse-Flow Cyclones: Gas enters from the top, and particles are collected at the bottom.
  • Straight-Through Cyclones: Gas and particles exit at the same end.
  • Multiple Cyclones: Several cyclones may be connected in parallel or series for more efficient separation.
